Mercedes will integrate pure EVs into its compact line by 2014 and it previewed te product to come today at the Paris Motor Show in the B-Class Electric Drive.

“In developing our electric vehicles we accord top priority to customer benefits,” Thomas Weber, Daimler AG board member said. “Accordingly, the Concept B-Class Electric Drive demonstrates premium-standard electric mobility for all the family. The concept vehicle offers outstanding everyday practicality and great driving enjoyment.”

Mercedes says the car will offer up to almost 125 miles of range through its battery pack, which is integrated into the floor without sacrificing any interior space in current models.

Much the same as any other EV, the B-Class Electric Drive offers loads of torque on demand — more than 228 lb-ft in this case. The car’s speed is electronically limited to about 93 mph, which is another common feature in EVs. Unlike gas-powered cars, those like the B-Class Electric Drive actually burn more energy during sustained high speeds than around-town driving.

As you would expect with a Mercedes, the interior is generously appointed with Nappa leather. Wrapping the steering wheel, seats, door panels, arm rests and dashboard, the car’s interior looks unmistakably luxurious.

While Mercedes made mo mention of the show car’s laughable blue chrome wrapping, it’s hard not to look back at Justin Bieber’s regrettable Fisker Karma.

While it hasn’t exactly been unusual for automakers to offer EV-specific aesthetics, this is probably going a little bit too far.
