Opening the door to speculation, Infiniti unveiled its Q50 Eau Rouge concept during the Detroit Auto Show this week.
Well, sort of. The brand didn’t bother covering the car, so it sat exposed until the second of two press preview days when the brand’s press conference was scheduled. That might have hurt some of its hype, but the concept is nothing to scoff at. If the brand builds it, the angry-looking Q50 will have at least 500 hp and 600 lb-ft of torque.

That power will come from a mysterious engine with forced induction and a V cylinder configuration. It will probably come from one of Infiniti’s corporate partners, which hints at the possibility of a biturbo Mercedes-Benz V8 hiding under the car’s carbon fiber hood. By the way, that bonnet sits a bit higher than usual, which can be taken as yet another hint that there’s an eight cylinder lurking beneath the surface.
Here’s to hoping that Nissan’s recent run of news about plans to build several of its sports-oriented concepts will spread to Infiniti’s plans.
